Comfy Cotton Baby Hat

Two coworkers of mine are having a baby boy and I wanted to knit them something (how could I pass up that opportunity?). Because they seem to be allergic (combined) to most items found on the planet earth, I thought it was a safe bet that wool would not work for their baby (who, I imagine, with their powers combined, will be allergic to everything, possibly even himself). I looked hard for some soft cotton and found Blue Sky Cotton at Stash. It's cotton soft enough for a baby and still wool-free enough for all types of allergic people. Also, it's organic (which I just realized when I looked up the website for the link, but we can pretend I did it on purpose). I used the simple pattern below to make a hat in one night.

Material
Set of five size 6 DPNs.
One Skein Blue Sky Cotton in "Azul"
One Skein Blue Sky Cotton in "Indigo"

Directions
With Indigo cast on 50 stitches and divide between four needles. Join without twisting.

Knit 3 round in Indigo.
Knit 3 rounds in Azul.

Repeat all 6 rounds once more and switch to Indigo for the rest of the hat.

Knit until the hat measures 4 inches from the brim, then decrease as follows.

Knit 3, knit 2 together. Repeat until the end of the round.
Knit one round.
Knit 2, Knit 2 together. Repeat until the end of the round.
Knit one round.
Knit 1, Knit 2 together. Repeat until the end of the round.
Knit one round.
Knit 2 together. Repeat until the end of the round.
Knit 2 together. Repeat until the end of the round.

You should have 5 stitches left. Break off the yarn leaving about a 5-inch piece and pull it through the remaining stitches. Weave in ends.

Remember Darby? Doesn't he look dashing in knitwear?
