Super Simple Stripey Short (Row) Socks




Completed socks! For hubby even.

Materials

One skein each of KnitPicks Essentials in Ash and Dusk

Size one DPNs

Instructions

the Leg
Cast On 70 stitches in gray and, of course, join without twisting.

Knit one round even. Knit 5 rounds in k2, p2 ribbing.

Join the blue and work in the following pattern:
k 6 rounds in blue
k 6 rounds in gray
k 6 rounds in blue
k 6 rounds in gray
k 6 rounds in blue
k 6 rounds in gray
k 6 rounds in blue
k 6 rounds in gray

The Heel




Put 36 stitches on one needle at the beginning of the next round to prepare for the heel. The heel is knit entirely in blue.
K1 row
P1 row
K 35 stitches, turn the work.
Yarn over by bringing the yarn to the back of the work, then over the right needle to the front. P 34 stitches and turn work.
Yarn over by bringing the yarn to the front of the work, then to the back of the work over the right needle. K 33 stitches.

The Gussett
You are now at the beginning of the third needle. Pick up and knit four gussett stitches, knit to the end of the next two needles, then pick up and knit four gussett stitches. You are the beginning of the round. K1 round.
K to the end of the first two needles. At the beginning of the third needle, k 1, ssk, k to end of the needle. K to the last three stitches on the fourth needle, k2 tog, k1.

K to the end of the first two needles. At the beginning of the third needle, k 1, ssk, k to end of the needle. K to the last three stitches on the fourth needle, k2 tog, k1.
K 1 round. Switch to gray.
K to the end of the first two needles. At the beginning of the third needle, k 1, ssk, k to end of the needle. K to the last three stitches on the fourth needle, k2 tog, k1.

K to the end of the first two needles. At the beginning of the third needle, k 1, ssk, k to end of the needle. K to the last three stitches on the fourth needle, k2 tog, k1.

The Foot





Switch to blue and
K6 round blue
K6 rounds gray
K6 round blue

The Toe
Needle one - k1, ssk, k to the end of the needle.
Needle two - k to the last three stitches on the needle, k2 tog, k1
Needle three - k1, ssk, k to the end of the needle.
Needle four - k to the last three stitches on the needle, k2 tog, k1

K1 round

Repeat these two rounds until 28 stitches remain. Graft the toe using the kitchener stitch. Weave in ends.

I'm trying to learn the short row heel...frogged twice. I was ready to give up and then found this post! I'm going to follow your directions for my third attempt. I need the detail you've provided!
